A small group of Finnish families met on October 25th, 1908 to establish a French Lake area cemetery. They called the group the "French Lake Independent Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery Association". The original plot of land of 1.3 acres was purchased on the 11th day of March, 1909 from Josoa & Hannah Sikkila and the land was conveyed and warrant to Thomas Thompson, Matti Mikelson and Herman Hautajarvi as trustees of the Assoc. A survey and recording of this land with the intentions of creating a cemetery was made on the 7th day of November 1910 with Thomas Thomson (Pres), Abe Lantto (Secr), Jacob Hoikka (Treas) and Herman Hautajarvi, owners and trustees. The land was laid out into Lots from 1 to 59 inclusive and dedicated for public use with all the streets and alleys thereon. The witnesses were Matti Mikkelson and Jacob Lantto.
A second plot of land was purchased by the cemetery association on the 15th day of November 1933. An adjoining 1 acre 2.5 square rods west of the original plot and purchased from issac Lindale single.
A third plot of land purchased by the cemetery association on the 10th day of May 1944. An adjoining lot west of the two previous lots of about 1.3 acres with an easement and right of way of 10ft as means of ingress and egress to the property purchased from A.M. & Viola Ridgway.
The name of the cemetery association was changed to Riverside Cemetery Association of French Lake on the 10th day of May 1960.
